📋 Personal Details

Born in 1965 in Nasushiobara, Tochigi, Japan,
Arly Lucis (real name: Akitomo Takahashi) is a composer and sound artist currently based in Yokohama.

He studied business administration at Aoyama Gakuin University, where he was actively involved in wind ensemble performance and creative music communities, experiences that shaped both his musical discipline and his holistic approach to sound.

His artistic foundation was formed through a diverse range of practices, including ensemble performance, rhythm and movement, and folk-based musical expression.

Beyond music, he has a long-standing interest in language, symbolism, and the subtle structures that shape human perception.

Today, his work focuses on creating sound experiences that invite deep listening, stillness, and inner resonance in contemporary society.

🎶 Musical Journey

Arly Lucis began exploring music at the age of three, developing an early sensitivity to sound, rhythm, and silence.

During his student years, he engaged in wind ensembles and band activities, cultivating both technical discipline and collaborative musical sensibility.

In the 1980s, he began composing, performing, and producing professionally. Influenced by the pioneering spirit of YMO and the work of Ryuichi Sakamoto, his music has consistently crossed genre boundaries, moving freely between electronic, orchestral, and experimental forms.

In 2000, his original symphonic work “Mother Earth” reached No. 2 on global MP3 charts, drawing international attention.
In 2005, his “CD Book for Parkinson’s Disease” sold over 20,000 copies and was recognized for its contribution to the emerging field of music therapy.

💼 Business Career

Alongside his artistic activities, Arly Lucis built a parallel career spanning more than 30 years in the pharmaceutical industry.

Working as a Medical Representative (MR) for both Japanese and international companies, he developed a deep understanding of medicine, neuroscience, and human health.

Within this context, he actively explored the intersection of music, medicine, and cognitive science, leading to multiple award-winning initiatives recognized both within his organizations and externally.

This background allows him to approach sound not only as art, but as a medium deeply connected to the human body, perception, and well-being.

🏆 Major Awards

2008 – YAMAHA Award (DTM Category), competition hosted by Shigeyasu Kiyoshi

🌱 Philosophy & Activities

Arly Lucis explores the expressive and healing potential of sound through high-resolution audio and carefully tuned frequencies, including the 528Hz Solfeggio tone, explored as a symbolic and experiential element within sound, rather than as a scientific claim.

He advocates for the revival of analog media such as vinyl records, valuing their physical presence, temporal depth, and the sense of “listening with intention” they invite in an increasingly digital world.

At the core of his activities lies a commitment to social contribution. Through music, he engages with themes of dementia prevention, support for individuals experiencing social withdrawal (hikikomori), and mental health challenges such as depression, seeking to create spaces where sound functions as connection, care, and quiet dialogue.

🏛 Family Background

Arly Lucis was born into a family deeply rooted in education, art, and cultural service.

His father, Tsutomu Takahashi, is a painter and member of the Shunyo-kai art association.
His grandfather, Kameichi Takahashi, served as principal of Kabusawa Elementary School.
His uncle, Haruo Suzuki, is Professor Emeritus at Utsunomiya University.
His aunt, Hisako Okubo, founded Mito Lily Gakuen, among other contributions within the educational field.

This lineage of educators, artists, and scholars has profoundly shaped his perspective, reinforcing a lifelong dialogue between artistic expression, learning, and social responsibility.

Within this lineage, Arly Lucis continues to explore how sound can serve as a bridge between tradition and the present, individuality and society.
